Today’s short-n-sweet post is brought to you by my cell phone.
Each day at 3:00 PM, the following reminder pops up on my phone screen:
Self-love check in
YES! I love my daily self-love check in. Every time I hear the little ding on my phone and see the words come up, I stop what I’m doing and close my eyes. I ask myself, “Babe, how’s it going? What do you need right now? How do you feel?” This is a perfect opportunity to give myself the attention that I deserve – that EACH of us deserves!
My answers are different every time. Sometimes I’m able to identify that I’m harboring some negative feelings and I need to release them. Sometimes I recognize that I’m craving food even when I’m not hungry, which is always an indicator that something deeper is bothering me, so I ask myself what I truly want that isn’t food. Other times I realize something physical or biological, like yesterday I noticed that I was extremely thirsty because I hadn’t had any water to drink in almost 2 hours.
Why do I do this? Why is it important?
We each deserve to be checked in on. We have so many thoughts, emotions, and sensations in our minds and bodies each day, and most of it goes unnoticed or is repressed. This 30-second ritual gives me a tiny chunk of time to get intimate with those thoughts that are slipping under the rug. Like I said, usually there is something funky happening in my mind that I didn’t notice before I took a second to slow down and check on myself.
Get into the habit of talking to yourself. It may sound weird and feel uncomfortable, but it’s been one of the healthiest things I started doing for myself. Because if we don’t care for ourselves like queens, we can’t expect anyone else to do it better.
I’d love to hear from you in the comments below. Do you have a self-care ritual? What types of questions would you ask yourself if you put a check-in on your phone as a reminder?
